Bulgarian-born virtuoso accordionist Milen Slavov, of Portland Oregon, joins forces with the 14-piece gypsy brass band the Krebsic Orkestar, also located in Portland, to create the "Balkan Fusion Project" - an evening of energetic, danceable, and wild gypsy-inspired music with a twist. The show features original compositions by Milen and classic Old World gypsy songs arranged in a way that keeps up with the musical times of today. Expect odd-meters, fast and virtuosic melody lines, a powerful rhythm section made up of drums and low brass, and an infectious, emotionally moving repertoire of...Balkan Fusion. The show also features the acclaimed Bulgarian folk singer Zhivka Papancheva, and bellydancer Severina.
The show will debut at the Doug Fir Lounge (830 E. Burnside, Portland, OR) on April 10, 2008. Show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door (available at www.ticketswest.com ). 21+
